CHAPTER-4

Author’s Pov:

Time skiped

The Rathore family landed in India.
As they were heading towards their mansion — yes, they lived in a mansion — everyone was happy except for Vihaan. He was lost in thought, feeling a strange presence around him, as if someone was near… and that he would eventually find them.

As they reached the mansion, they were warmly greeted by other family members (Vihaan’s uncle, aunt, and cousin).
Veer Singh Rathore stepped forward and hugged his brother Jay and nephew Vihaan, expressing his happiness at their arrival. Jay Singh Rathore and Veena did the same.
Krish was thrilled to meet his older brother after such a long time, though he also felt a bit scared of him.

“Bhai, let’s go on a drive. I missed you so much…” Krish said with excitement.
“Nope, I have work to do,” Vihaan replied with a straight face.
“Kya yrr bhai, aisa thodi hota hai. Abhi to aaye ho, kya kaam? Let’s chill na.”
(What, bro? That’s not fair. You just got here, what work? Let’s chill!)

Vihaan glared at him with an expression that clearly said: Don’t force me.

Veena, knowing her son well, called Krish aside and told him not to push Vihaan, or else he might shout at him. Krish understood that "Sher ke muh mein haath daal ke khud ka hi nuksaan hai."
(Putting your hand in a lion’s mouth is only going to hurt you.)

After dinner and some chit-chat, everyone retired to their rooms.
Meanwhile, Vihaan was still working late into the night.

At 1 a.m., he checked the time and finally drifted into a deep slumber.

Author’s pov:

Next day…

As usual, Vihaan woke up at 5 a.m., completed his gym session, and then started getting ready. After that, he went for breakfast. Once he was done, he wished his family goodbye and left for the site.

His site was located near a primary school, and he was sure it was going to be chaotic. Just then, Samarth arrived with the site file and the list of problems. While they were discussing everything in Vihaan’s office, a loud noise suddenly echoed from outside. Vihaan asked Samarth to check what it was.

A few minutes later, Samarth returned, breathing heavily. Vihaan asked him, “What happened?”

Before Samarth could answer, another scream was heard from outside.

Samarth: "Sir, bahar jungle billi hai. Mat jao."
(Sir, there's a wild cat outside. Don't go.)

Vihaan halted in his steps as he heard that and said, “What?”

“I mean, sir, she is behaving like one—shouting at our workers,” Samarth completed his sentence while trying to read Vihaan’s reaction, as he was also scared of his anger.

As they went outside, Vihaan saw a girl, her back facing him, yelling at one of the workers.

He asked, “How may I help you?”

The girl turned around, and Vihaan’s heartbeat skipped a beat. He just stared at her—her long, mid-thigh length hair, her black doe eyes, her nose, her glossy lips, and that anger… which he found strangely cute.

Suddenly, Vihaan’s thoughts broke.
What happened to me? This has never happened before. And cute? What are you even thinking, Vihaan? Get a grip on yourself!

Then the girl stepped forward and stood in front of him.

“Are you the one who is supervising everything here?” the girl asked Vihaan.

“Yes,” Vihaan replied.

“Listen, sir. As this construction work is going on, the noise is disturbing our school students. They can’t focus on their studies because of it. I tried telling your workers the same, but they didn’t listen to me, so I had to shout at them,” the girl said in one go.

Vihaan's POV:

This girl is so captivating. There's something about her…
Her voice is like music to my ears.
The way she talks all in one breath—how can someone be this loud and still sound so sweet?
Her eyes… doob jaane ko dil karta hai.
(I feel like drowning in those eyes.)
The way her expressions change while she talks—haaye, how can someone be this cute?
But… who is she?

Girl: "Oh hello, kaha kho gaye ho? Kuch bologe bhi ya gunge ho?"
(Oh hello, where are you lost? Will you say something or are you mute?)

She snapped her fingers in front of me, pulling me out of my thoughts. And that last word—gunge—made me angry.
How dare she say that? Doesn’t she know who I am?

“And why do you think I’ll stop my work for you? And who the hell are you to tell me this?” I asked her, trying hard to control my anger.

“Umm… I work there, and I don’t want my students to get disturbed. That’s why I came here,” she tried to explain.

I was about to respond when suddenly I got a call from Chachu (uncle), so I just told her, “I’ll look into it. You can go now.”

And then… I heard her murmuring jerk or something equally rude.

Chahat’s pov:

Aah, today is going to be so hectic. As usual, I woke up late…

“Bhagwaan ji, kyun raat bhar jaga kar late uthwate ho? Mazza aata hai kya…”
(God, why do You keep me awake all night only to make me wake up late? Do You enjoy this?)

With that, I got ready as fast as I could. When I reached school, I saw a group of teachers discussing something. I went near Dev Sir—he’s my friend and an excellent teacher who can handle and teach students very calmly. I really like this quality of Dev Sir.

Anyway, Dev Sir told me that there’s a construction site nearby, and because of the noise, students are getting disturbed. I asked him if our school had spoken to the people working there, but all the teachers, including Dev Sir, shook their heads in denial.

After some time, we decided to go and talk to them. If the construction was just for a day, we could’ve managed, but since it seemed like it would continue, it was definitely going to affect the students’ studies.

So, we decided to go—I mean, Dev Sir and I. As we reached the site, we saw a building under construction. We tried to talk to the workers and asked them to stop the noise, but they weren’t listening to us. They said they couldn’t stop because their boss had ordered them to complete the work. That made me furious.

I asked them why, and they repeated the same thing—that their boss had instructed them. I asked to meet their boss, but they said he was busy. I was about to shout at them when Dev held me back and said he’d take care of it. That moment made me realize I was about to make a mistake in anger—it would’ve been wrong to shout at them.

Just as Dev Sir was going to talk to them, his phone rang. He told me it was urgent. I said,
“Dev sir, aap jao, I’ll manage. Pakka.”
(Dev Sir, you go, I’ll manage. Promise.)

But he insisted on staying. Still, I knew it must be something really urgent, so after a lot of back and forth, a man came up and asked me,
“How can I help you?”

I thought maybe he was the boss. When I turned and saw him—I was stunned.
“No, it can’t be him. He can’t be here.”
I composed myself and asked,
“Are you the one who is supervising everything here?”
He replied,
“Yes.”

“Listen, sir. As this construction work is going on, the noise is disturbing our school students. They can’t focus on their studies because of it. I tried telling your workers the same, but they didn’t listen to me, so I had to shout at them,” I said to him all in one go.

But he didn’t answer.

As the conversation continued, I found him rude—just like him. But then I told myself,
“He is not him.”

I turned and walked away, not before murmuring under my breath, “rude, jerk”
“Samajhte kya hain apne aap ko…”
(What does he think of himself…)

Just as I was nearing the exit gate, I saw him smirking at me. And at that exact moment, a box of paint fell from above—right on me. I saw him smiling.

As I started walking toward him again, my phone rang. It was Shefali (Chahat’s colleague), and she said it was urgent and I needed to come fast.

“Ahh, I hate him,” I said, and walked away from there.

Now I had to clean this mess first.
I’ll deal with that arrogant ass later.

And finally—I left.
